Yellow drop stitch cowl

I'm happy to say that it will soon be too warm to wear this cowl, but I wanted to show you before it got packed away for the summer.  I fell in love with this pattern when I saw a friend post the one she knit.  Its the drop stitch cowl by Spider Woman Knits.  You can get the pattern for free on Ravelry.com.  Graciously modeled here by my roomie.  I used Patons classic wool roving yarn.

Knit cotton wash cloths

I knit up a couple of dish/washcloths recently.  Its knit regular on straight needles but the decreases make it angle like that.  I finally found a purpose for that robot button I made at swap-o-rama-rama.  

Blue and White Knitted Cowl

I love visiting with my Aunt E.  Not only is she a kindred spirit but she has a craft store addiction.  I knew I got that from somewhere.  Occasionally I benefit from her overflowing stash, which is where the yarn came from for this cowl.  Its just a basic garter stitch done on 15 needles but I LOVE the color.

Practicing cutouts - yarn ball

Here is another piece I did cutouts on.  Its a knitting needle holder and I cut the shape of a yarn ball into it.  The top holes are to weave yarn pretties through, but I need to dig through my stash to find just the right fiber for the job.

Decreasing my stash

Nothing too exciting.  Just a striped cotton washcloth. I went on a cotton hoarding spree and have tons of sugar n' cream yarn so there will be many more washcloths to come.

Project 40/50

Shades of Green Ruffle Scarf

I've been intrigued by the "ruffle yarn" since it came out.  My aunt had just shown me the scarf she had made with it, and later that day we went to the thrift store where I found 2 skeins of it!  It's a bit of a hassle find the little holes to put the needle through, but when you get the hang of it, it knits up pretty quick.

Dyeing Handspun Yarn

With a vacation interrupting my craft time for the Fiber to Fashion challenge, I wasn't able to get my project done in time to enter it.  I was afraid to have my knitting needles confiscated at the airport, which prevented me from taking it with to work on.  So, since then, I've been taking my time, and working on other projects in between.

I pre-treated both of the skeins by soaking them in a vinegar solution. Then I dyed them one at a time in Kelly Green Rit according to the box directions.  The first skein was spun thicker and turned out a darker teal green and the second was thinner and turned a sort of light mint green. After I was done using the dye for the wool, I put some cotton in and it turned a vibrant Green.

I don't have a good place to hang wool to dry at my place, so I just wrapped it from some seats to the china hutch.  When it had dried over night, I spun it into a ball and got to knitting a hat.  My inspiration came from the book boutique Knits, but I'm making it up as I go, rather than following the pattern.  I've never done that before so I'm nervous about the outcome.  I'll post pictures when I've finished it.
