Yellow drop stitch cowl

I'm happy to say that it will soon be too warm to wear this cowl, but I wanted to show you before it got packed away for the summer.  I fell in love with this pattern when I saw a friend post the one she knit.  Its the drop stitch cowl by Spider Woman Knits.  You can get the pattern for free on Ravelry.com.  Graciously modeled here by my roomie.  I used Patons classic wool roving yarn.

Shades of Green Ruffle Scarf

I've been intrigued by the "ruffle yarn" since it came out.  My aunt had just shown me the scarf she had made with it, and later that day we went to the thrift store where I found 2 skeins of it!  It's a bit of a hassle find the little holes to put the needle through, but when you get the hang of it, it knits up pretty quick.

Throwback Thursday - Tshirt recon

Back in the day, when I listened to metal, I found this sweet Norma Jean shirt.  It even has glow in the dark text.  But it only came in a kids size.  Not a problem.  I cut the graphic and used another t-shirt and made the two into a tank top.  This is my first clothing project that I've sold.  Selling a piece always affirms the question in the back of my head, "Am I really an artist?"

Fiber to fashion

I used to wonder what a pound of wool looked like.  It looks like this! -->

Craftster is doing a "Fiber to Fashion" challenge, where you have to spin your own yarn and then knit/crochet/weave something from it.  Having never spun in my life, of course I had to jump right into that.  So I found a lady on craigslist selling Icelandic roving, fashioned a drop spindle from a wooden dowel and a cd spindle, and learned from Youtube how it all works together.

Its so easy, and I could spin for hours.

My first spin came out surprisingly even.  That skein of 2 ply turned out to be 88 yards.  I just finished two more thinner singles that I will be plying together tonight and then I get to try dyeing!  I haven't decided what to knit for the challenge yet.  Hopefully the yarn will tell me what it wants to be when its a pretty color. :)

Mmmm....yarn.
