Throwback Thursday - Deathnote cross stitch

"L" is a character in the anime Deathnote.  This cross stich took me 80 hours to complete!

WooHoo! Wheel time!

I was so excited to start working on the throwing wheel.  I always wanted one of those little plastic ones for Christmas when I was a kid.  My first cylinders on the wheel aren't perfect, but I am quite pleased I was able to even pull it off at all without my clay flying across the room.

Projects 7&8/50

Tree trunk vessels - Stiff slabs

There were several requirements I had to keep in mind when making my stiff slab projects.
1. It had to be a set of 3
2. It had to be at least 12" x 5" in any direction
3. It had to have 5 or more sides, but not including the top and bottom.

Cutting anlges with no precise measuring tools is hard!

I decided to make tree stump vessels to hold kitchen utensils, etc. that looked like three different kinds of trees.

It's too bad the scans of my drawings are always lighter than in real life.  This is the second entry in my image journal.

First coil project

     After pinch pots, I learned the techniques to make a coil pot.  As I worked on this project my feelings toward it were critical and I didn't like all the imperfections.  By the time I had spent so many hours working on it, I began to make a connection with the piece.  Though its not semetrical and is lumpy and bumpy in places, I can't help but like it after all.

Drunk as a Skunk

In my ceramics class I have to make an image journal featuring 10 different ceramic pieces.  Each entry has to consist of a picture of the piece, my rendering of it and a short write up on the piece and the artist.  Here is the first entry in my image journal.

Project 2/50 2013

My little pinch pot

     I decided to take a ceramics course, despite never actually conquering play dough as a kid. The only clay piece I ever made  in elementary school broke in the kiln.  The first thing we did was squeeze and work the clay to discover how it was manipulated in our hands.  The result...a primitive pinch pot.

"Snail" glaze inside, the brown is bare clay and clear glaze over all.

     I am considering doing a "50 projects in 2013" challenge.  Basically you just make or finish 50 projects of any crafty kind within the year.  On one hand, I think I should try this because I'm a terrible finisher and this might motivate me to complete what I start.  On the other hand I'm a terrible finisher, and I will probably fail.  Not a great attitude but at least I'm realistic.  So I think I'll count this as my first project and see how far I can get.
